At 6:45 on a Saturday morning, a Chapman Richard Real Estate agent was doing something typical, driving around. But on this day, she was on her way to meet with someone different from her usual clients -– homeless families to whom she would be serving breakfast.  Agents and brokers know more than anyone how important housing is to people’s sense of well-being, and few industries get a more personal view of the impact of the down economy in our region.



“Real estate professionals know how important a home is to people, family and communities” said Scott Chapman of Chapman Richards and Associates, whose agents have begun Chapman Richards Cares, a committee of real estate agents working to encourage and organize charitable participation in the Salt Lake Valley, through the Community Foundation of Utah’s Corporate Advised Fund program.



All seventy-five of Chapman Richards’ agents - and the professionals they interact with, such as title and mortgage companies – can join in the effort by donating a portion of every transaction to the fund. In addition, the agents participate in community events sponsored by Chapman Richards Cares, which have included clothing and toy drive, a food drive, a golf tournament to benefit veterans, as well as serving meals for the homeless.



Since its inception a little over one year ago, Chapman Richards Cares has raised $10,072 which has been donated to local charities including The Road Home, The Bennion School, the Maliheh and Hope Free Clinics, Utah Food Bank and The Candy Cane Store.  Besides the great feeling they get from participating in the community this way, the agents are finding other great benefits of their involvement in connecting with clients as well as their fellow brokers through service.
