Curtis Midkiff, the director of social strategy and engagement at the Society for Human Resource Management’s national office, will speak about using social media as an Human Resources (HR) tool at the March 13 Professional Development Training Event of Salt Lake City SHRM.

“Our members (and their companies) have consistently expressed a sincere interest in learning more about how to use Social Media responsibly.  We are thrilled to have this rare opportunity for Curtis Midkiff, the SHRM national Social Media expert, come to Salt Lake City and share his knowledge with our local HR professionals on this hot topic” states Jackie Lohdefinck, 2012 President of Salt Lake SHRM.

The seminar, taking place at Radisson Hotel Salt Lake City Downtown, 215 West South Temple, Salt Lake City, UT 84101 will provide an introduction to social media and an overview of the various tools being widely used and provide advice on how HR professionals can take the lead in the strategic use of social media at their organizations.

“Today's HR professional is being asked to provide leadership and direction in their company's adoption of social media,” said Midkiff. “I am looking forward to the opportunity to share observations regarding how HR pros can harness the power of social networks like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube to positively impact corporate priorities such as employee engagement, customer service, and brand awareness.”

At SHRM, Midkiff, a recognized thought leader on social media strategy, provides strategic leadership and direction in using social media to achieve organizational goals. He also works closely with SHRM chapters and state councils across the country, providing assistance and social media training.

Midkiff has over 15 years of experience in communications, marketing and new media strategies. Before joining SHRM, he served as the chief marketing officer for JCM Enterprises.

Midkiff holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Morehouse College and a master’s degree in political management from George Washington University.
