Westminster is pleased to present the fall symposium “Capitalizing on the Idea:  A Symposium on Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital” hosted by Delta Mu Delta on Oct. 26, 2011, at 6:30 p.m. in the Gore School of Business Auditorium.

The symposium will include a panel of venture capitalists (VC) and entrepreneurs who will discuss how VC professionals recognize lucrative projects or investments, and how entrepreneurs secure funding for their companies.  The discussion will be moderated by Lauren Lo Re, Westminster finance professor. The panelists include:

·       Jorge Fierro, founder of Rico Brands

·       Vicki Farrar, CEO of Catheter Connections, Inc.

·       Damon Kirchmeier of Innoventures Capital Partners

·       Ben Dahl of Pelion Venture Partners

“The symposium addresses two crucial issues for venture capitalists and new entrepreneurs: first, how to get funded and which new business to fund, and second, how to ensure the success of a new venture during its early stages,” explained Dr. Melissa Koerner, associate professor of management. “In this era of high unemployment, more people are choosing to start their own businesses.  In this symposium, successful entrepreneurs and investors will share their stories about the challenges they faced and how they overcame them.”

The symposium is free and open to the public.  For more information, contact Melissa Koerner at mkoerner@westminstercollege.edu
