OREM, UT—May 5, 2011 — BoomStartup today announced the unveiling of company participants for their summer mentor-driven investment program. On May 5th, BoomStartup will name 10 companies selected from a pool of hundreds of applicants. Held at One on One Marketing 2912 Executive Parkway, Ste 300, Lehi, UT, 84043 at 6:30 pm and open to the public, the event will be in conjunction with Launchup.org.

”This year’s application flow is far ahead of last year,” said Robb Kunz, angel investor and BoomStartup mentor entrepreneur. “The stiff competition leaves no doubt that entrepreneurism is hot in Utah and the stage is set for some great success stories.”

BoomStartup is a full-time entrepreneurial program that runs from May through August. The organization provides each selected company with seed capital of up to $15,000, an additional $15,000 worth of in-kind services, mentoring from numerous successful entrepreneurs and technologists, free office space and resources, and education that takes them through the various steps of launching a technology company. Notable “investor-mentors” give of their financial resources and time as mentors to the entrepreneurs. The program concludes with an investor day where the companies have an opportunity to pitch their idea to over 100 investors at a single venue.

BoomStartup recently partnered with Grow Utah Ventures and Northfront Alliance to expand the information network all the way north. They have also opened a second campus at the Salt Lake City Miller Innovation Center. This will complement the Orem campus in the Canyon Park Technology Center.

This year’s investor-mentors include Craig Earnshaw of LifeLink Corp; Kimball Wirig of Dentrix; Craig Bott of Grow Utah Ventures, MarketStar, and E&Y; BoomStartup founders John Richards & Robb Kunz ; and Andy White of SchoolCenter. More than 40 other business mentors are also on-hand.

“This year’s investor-mentors have each overcome the same types of obstacles faced by our applicants,” Richards said. “We are fortunate to have their knowledge and experience in the classroom. They are a great asset to Utah’s technology and entrepreneurial community.”

Last year’s selected companies included iCount, TaleSpring, iActionable, and KarmaKey, each of which was recognized by other Utah organizations for their innovation and potential success.
