The University of Utah is equipping current and future business leaders to leverage the exploding Internet-based marketplace by launching a new Internet Marketing Certificate program in April 2012. The David Eccles School of Business is partnering with Online Marketing Gurus, a team of digital marketing experts and instructors, to teach participants the foundations of Internet marketing to acquire new customers, drive online performance, and enhance customer retention with proven strategies and best practices in data-driven marketing.
Beginning with a free February 2 webinar hosted by Matt Langie, founder and CEO of Online Marketing Gurus, The School of Business will introduce interested participants to fundamental Internet marketing strategies, best practices and concepts provided throughout this premier executive education program. Langie says the program will help the school establish an international reputation for training the next generation of digitally savvy entrepreneurs, along with current executives and marketers seeking to hone their Internet business know-how. Just a decade ago, businesses were still depending primarily upon print display advertising, television and radio to get out the word on their products and services. Today, marketing has shifted heavily toward the Internet, recognizing that cyberspace increasingly is the medium of choice for consumers, given its immediacy, while offering critical measurability for businesses.
According to the Forrester Research Interactive Marketing Forecast, spending on Internet marketing – from online display advertising to email, search engine and social media campaigns – will more than double from 2011’s $34.4 billion to nearly $76.7 billion by 2016.
“The Internet Marketing Certificate Program at the David Eccles School of Business is one of very few such programs available in the world,” Langie says. “There are billions of dollars being invested in Internet marketing, but unfortunately, academia — with the exception of the University of Utah and a few other schools — has not kept up with the market growth and demands of business to educate Internet marketers.”
The Internet Marketing Certificate Program (www.uinternetmarketing.com) commences on April 27, and runs through consecutive Fridays and Saturdays to June 8. The instructors from Online Marketing Gurus will call upon more than 50 years of combined digital marketing and analysis experience from leading companies, including Adobe, Omniture, Microsoft, Intel, Foresee Results, Ancestry.com and other Internet savvy firms.
